HOMEOWNERS vs GOLF CLUB MEMBERS

Food for thought: Out of the 37 occupied homes only 12 are members. Rest assured non-golfers you are not the minority.

Any idea how many memberships have been sold? If your ratio is correct, is Spanish Oaks really firing on all cylinders, or is there a marketing/sales "haze" that only a few have bought into?
There are around 170 golf memberships. I'm sure if you have visited the club you will agree that their service is uncomparable. They strive to exceed our expectations and they surpass their expectations. Greg and I went to their Valentines dinner and I cannot even begin to tell you of all the tiny details that made it such an awesome evening. Yes we ate in a tent, but their amazing staff transformed it into an intimate setting. Chef Tripi and his team served us an unbelievable meal. We returned to our awaiting car only to find a new CD playing -- personally made by Spanish Oaks. What an end to the perfect evening -- I am still humming "My Cherie Amour." I could go on and on about all of the wonderfull events we have attended, but... they are having one in a little while and I don't want to miss it. This is not a haze. It is just a matter of time before there will be people waiting to be a part of Spanish Oaks. I can't ever imagine belonging anywhere else.
My understanding is that there are presently some Golf Club members who are not land owners here but they've changed the way memberships are being handled and you must own land to be able to buy a membership now.
The issue as I see it isn't Golf or No golf, but the stratification of golf members versus non-member residents who DON'T PLAY golf and for whom $80,000 plus monthly minimums isn't worth dinners and niceties. This diminishes the sense of community without some effort behind compensatory elements to bring us ALL together.
If someone (non-club member) sells their property, will the new owner be allowed to join if they wish?
I think we all need to remember that the golf club is separate. Our membership documents say they will offer social memberships in the future. The permanent clubhouse is not going to be complete until March of 2009. Until then it is not feasible for them to offer social memberships.
We are a relatively new neighborhood. There are only 37 residents. I'm sure that with time the community feel will grow. They are supposed to start work on the parks soon, which will at least give us a place to gather. The swim center/fishing hole should be complete next summer. According to the letter that came with the assesments statement, it sounds like they are planning some social events for homeowners this spring/summer.
